Slow and Steady....

It was a lovely Sunday morning in Brisbane...by that I mean hot, humid and drizzly :)

It was a special farewell run for one of the members at PCRG so we all met up at 5:30am at the Ship Inn to run the Sunday run together. We started out at a nice easy pace - I have to admit to being quite nervous about actually being able to get through the first three kilometres with this group!!! By the time we hit the 5km mark and stopped for a quick top up of water I knew I was not going to last much longer so I decided to turn around with some of the others and head back. I was pretty proud of myself in getting to 5km maintaining a nice steady pace and not walking or gasping for air or anything.

The last km was a killer. We were running past the beach at Southbank and I just wanted to stop and not go any further. However I had to make it all the way back to the start and then turn around and finish at the beach to make it the full 10km. The watch recorded 54mins so I was pretty happy with that - bear in mind I did stop it for the two water stops we had!

So my longest run in many many months and I feel great. The legs are tired, I am tired but I am confident now that I can handle this running caper again. At least I will gain some fitness back before I go back into hospital. I am not looking forward to starting speed training but with me heading back to work this week I guess all good things must come to an end.....and that includes my couch lifestyle of the past 15 weeks!

Wow. You're faster right now than I've ever been, LOL!

Good to hear that you are getting back into it again. Hope your first week back at work isn't *too* stressful

You'll get there Clairie. 10k is long enough to be building fitness.

By the way, nothing wrong with 5:24/km pace - must of my runs with Speedygeoff are much slower than that.

That's terrific Clairie. It's always good to build the confidence along with the fitness.

I think that's just fantastic, Clairie. Knew you'd be back & running fast again...and 5.24/k pace is real fast!

Be careful now & get the other business out of the way & then...no holding you!
